D. Erasmus Policy Statement (Overall Strategy)

Murgi Secondary School is applying for the Erasmus University Charter as a necessary document to give a solution to our students’ needs to study in Europe and so keep the present education policy of mobility promoted by Junta de Andalusia. Murgi Secondary School is a state public school which is under the authority of the Educational Department of Junta de Andalusia and where lessons are given to three Professional Training Courses of upper Grade within the Accountancy, Electricity and Computer Science branches. Our school has participated in different European programmes such as Leonardo Da Vince and Leonardo organised by the General Directorate Vocational Education and Training, sending pupils to carry out the training period abroad. We have taken part in many projects, for instance, Leonardo Da Vinci II, "Andalucía con Leonardo I, II y III", consortium "FCT-ERASMUS" I to V and "MOVITPRO".

The way our candidates are chosen is by their participation in EREIVET, which is about a project on Leonardo Da Vinci Associations, creating a group of international institutions made up of 14 European regions whose aim is to give support to schools in order to guarantee quality in the carrying out of FCT. The schools that belong to this group will provide the contacts to be able to select those referential companies in their environment and that belong to professional areas that are taught in our school. In view of the available companies, that that can easily be adapted to the students’ professional profile and that implies the best personal, professional and educational learning level will be selected. After the training period, the assessment of these companies to continue or not linked will be carried out in subsequent years.

The geographical areas where the associates will be chosen are those that participate in the EREIVET project. These associates are, among others, South Saxony (Germany), Jämtland (Sweden), Frisia (Holland), Denmark, Rouen (France), Bordeaux (France), The United Kingdom and Wroclaw (Poland).

The educational centre will warrant the highest experience quality in the students´ selection taking into account not only their record and language skills but also their maturity to adapt to different cultural environment which contribute to their personal development.

One of IES MURGI´s educational goals is to provide our students with opportunities to reinforce their theory knowledge with a training period which will take in a real working environment from a foreign country. Working and living abroad for a three-month period means an enriching experience from a personal, professional and educational point of view. These aspects improve not only students’ communicative abilities in another language but also encourage their capacity to adapt to different working environments and contribute to establish cultural links among the members of the European Union. This is the reason why in our School Plan it is established our participation in European programmes.

Another goal that we want to carry out is to spread participation among the educational community of our school: teachers, students, school council, town council, etc. and spread it in our school’s website or by means of news bulletins, circulars, working groups carried out by the teachers in which they can share mobility experiences, good practice methods, etc. At the beginning of each school year there will be information and motivation programmes about the possibility of taking the work placement module abroad.

The participation of our school bodies and authorities in this Project is very important. The school’s executive committee supports, coordinates and encourages the realization of these European projects in a centre where there is an enriching mixture of different nationalities. Teachers and students also participate actively in the different stages of the process, something which is a basic aspect for success. In this context, taking the European Union as a reference permits the improvement and integration of the school’s objectives and also improves the coexistence of the educational community. In order to reach these objectives we also participate in very important plans or projects such as the Coeducation Plan and the Project “School, Space for Peace”.

Our centre has taken part in the Leonardo da Vinci II projects, “Andalusia with Leonardo I, II and III”, consortium “WORK PLACEMENT MODULE- ERASMUS” and “MOVITPRO” from 2005 to 2013. In these projects there has been a mobility of both students and teachers.

The teaching staff has participated in training stays around the European Union, travels for study and visits to students in their work placement modules abroad. We have also received in 2010 a language assistant from the Comenius Project.

At present we are members of the EREIVET net. This is a project of Leonardo da Vinci Associations which, since 2009, has created a net of international institutions formed by fourteen European regions whose goal is to support those educational centres in order to guarantee the quality in the work placement modules. The schools that belong to this net facilitate the contacts to choose the reference companies in their environment and those which belong to the professional fields taught in our school.

Our strategy, in the medium term, in the Erasmus programme is to create a net of international vocational training institutions with similar features to our school. This association will allow us set stable cooperative patterns in order to carry out mobility effectively.

In order to get the objectives of Europe 2020, we will focus on the following points:

- Quality and innovation in teaching: we will encourage our school’s projects related to educational innovations within the annual announcement which the Regional Education Government calls or through the courses offered by the Teachers’ Centre.

- Links with the World of work: we will promote the training period abroad because in this way students will be able to employ the acquired knowledge in real life.

- Better recognition of skills gained through mobility: we will spread the participation in European programmes because companies appreciate the students who participate in these programmes, those who speak other languages and have international working experience.

What is expected from these politics is:

-The improvement in the quality and innovation in education will allow teachers, students and companies get a higher benefit.

-The establishment of international relationships within the working world will allow students to improve their conditions in the Spanish labour market.

- The recognition of the competences acquired by the mobility will increase the possibilities of the students who have taken part in the programme to find a job.
